Whilst growing up in Leeds I have seen the city change into a trendy and cosmopolitan tourist hub for Yorkshire. The city can be reached easily by train from London in just over two hours. There’s a good choice of from budget to luxury hotels in Leeds like the Queens Hotel, within walking distance of the shopping, nightlife and tourist attractions. Leeds has a lot to offer for families, students and couples.
Getting around
Walking is the best way to get around the city centre because everything is central from the train or bus station. As you walk out of the entrance of the train station you will find a free Metro run bus that you can jump on and off at certain stops around the city. To get to the city from Leeds & Bradford airport, the 747 bus service, outside of the airport will be the cheapest method of transport.
Tourist attractions
Step back in time and visit the Royal Armouries, home to the national collection of arms, armour and artillery. The kids will love it. Next take a visit is to the award-winning Thackray Museum and discover the story of medicine. The latest visitor attraction is the Leeds City Museum, which is a fantastic, free visitor attraction where you can explore treasures and visit and dig for fossils in the life on earth gallery.
Shopping
Leeds has been dubbed UK’s shopping Mecca of the north and you can understand that because it is fantastic for shoppers, with numerous shopping centres, art and antique shops and the historic Kirkgate market, which is a must visit. The Victoria Quarter is one of the most popular shopping centres topped by the largest stained glass roof in Europe.
Nightlife
Leeds is rightly one of the top destinations in the country for nightlife. The city has seen a transformation in the last ten years which has led to the development of a vast array of bars, pubs, restaurants and clubs. An influx of trendy bars into the area is due to the demand and many of the bars have suitably late licences.
Added to the excellent nightlife the city is on the edge of the stunning Yorkshire Dales which means a huge array of daytime activities are available from mountain biking and walking trails.
Leeds has a lot to offer everyone.
