Sunshine break on the Italian island of Capri

Take a sunshine break on the Italian island of Capri

Ahhh, the delights of Capri! Since even before Caesar Augustus’ time, this Mediterranean island has been the playground of the Gods. And with good reason – its gorgeous blue waters, limestone “sea stacks” and whitewashed villas never fail to inspire those who visit her. Spend a few days exploring Capri’s historic monuments, shopping its luxury shops or just basking in the sunshine.

Truly, there is a little something for everyone here. And it is all meant to be enjoyed.

An island with history

History tells us that Capri has been inhabited for thousands of years. And certainly, you can return the age of the Caesars with a visit to Tiberius’ Villa Jovis, one of the best preserved Roman Villas in all of Italy. Wander the old stones and imagine what life must have been like in the time of the Second Caesar. And make sure to check out the drop – it’s said that anyone who did not please Tiberius was thrown from the villa’s walls.

The island’s town, perched high a top the island and reached by funicular, is also full of history. Get lost among its winding, narrow streets, explore the old villas and just see where you might end up. You may be surprised – but no matter what, you’ll definitely be charmed.

An island with a view

The island also has incredible topography and natural attractions. One of the most famous is the Grotta Azzurra, or the Blue Grotto. This distinguished sea cave is one of Capri’s most popular sites – take a boat ride from the Grande Marina, hop in a rowboat and prepare to duck in and see this ancient, natural beauty.

But there’s more to see. Hike to Augustus’ garden and glimpse unparalleled views of the Bay of Naples. Hire a sail boat and enjoy close and personal views of the “sea stacks” and other grottoes along the rocky cliffs of the island. Or simply enjoy the sun shining in your albergo’s walled garden, as you breathe in the island’s signature fragrance of flowers and orange trees. You won’t be disappointed.

All that and more

Capri also has fantastic shopping and great restaurants. This is Italy, after all. Enjoy one of the many five-star restaurants in town. Shop for luxury goods at Hermes or La Floriente. Stock up on the region’s famous limoncello or other locally-made goods. On Capri, the world is truly your oyster. All you have to do is sit back, relax and crack it open.
