Discover and explore the history of Jerusalem

Each year, millions of pilgrims flock to this city in the heart of the Judean Mountains to pay their respects. But Jerusalem’s mix of myth and history has as much to offer the adventurous as it does the devout.
Making a pilgrimage to the Old City
It is no surprise that Jerusalem’s Old City is home to some incredibly religious sites. Not only is it the spiritual center of both the Christian and Jewish religions but it is also considered Islam’s third most Holy place. Place your prayer between the stones at the Western Wall. Follow in Christ’s footsteps as you walk the Stations of the Cross.
Or visit the Dome of the Rock and be wowed by the al-Aqsa Mosque. Even if you aren’t a believer yourself, you’ll soon see why people are drawn to this magical city and return again and again. But it is a true pleasure to just walk Jerusalem’s ancient streets. Explore the Jewish, Muslim, Christian and Armenian quarters and experience their different flavors. Shop the various stalls along King David Street for spices or souvenirs.
Be prepared to get a little lost – but here in Jerusalem, you may not mind.
Something new
Outside the citadel walls of Old Jerusalem, there is still plenty to tempt visitors. Check out the 20-acre Israel Museum Complex to learn more about the city and its history. The complex’s Shrine of the Book is home to the famed Dead Sea Scrolls and its Youth Wing is renowned for exhibits that the whole family will love. But Jerusalem is also a city of arts and culture. One can enjoy performances by the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra or take in a show at the historic Khan, the city’s only repertoire theater.
And though Tel Aviv may is known as Israel’s urban center, Jerusalem proper still has plenty of restaurants, hotels and shopping to tempt those with the most discerning tastes.
Exploring Israel
Jerusalem may be Israel’s shining jewel but there is still plenty to see across the country. The city is a great starting point to visit restored 19th century villages like Rosh Pina and Zichron Ya’Akov. Or for those with more adventurous tastes, hiking, skiing, rafting and other adventure travel activities can be found nearby. They say that Israel is a destination that has something for everyone. And within a few minutes of exploring the delightful and mysterious Jerusalem, you’ll be sure to agree.
